Call of Duty Mobile Includes a 100-Player Battle Royale Mode

Call of Duty: Mobile is set to launch on Android and iOS devices worldwide on Oct. 1, Activision announced late yesterday.

The publisher is the latest to take the reputational weight of a big-name franchise and attempt to condense it down into a cohesive mobile experience. It follows in the footsteps of PUBG and Fortnite as well as League of Legends going by reports earlier this year that developer Riot Games was hard at work developing a mobile version of the massively popular MOBA.

Tencent Games Is Developing CoD: Mobile

One common strand unites these three franchises, and that is the involvement of Chinese gaming powerhouse Tencent Games in some capacity.

In the case of Call of Duty: Mobile, the company is developing the game on behalf of Activision through its in-house studio Timi - the very same behind one of several PUBG mobile iterations released in China.

Marketing material released for the occasion describes the upcoming game as follows; Call of Duty: Mobile is a new free-to-play game that brings together the maps, weapons, and characters from across the series in the definitive first-person action experience on mobile.

We can expect a more or less familiar Call of Duty first-person shooter experience with the edges sanded down to accommodate a condensed control scheme and the inherent technical limitations of smartphones.

Call of Duty: Mobile is multi-player only and will include multiple competitive game modes (team deathmatch, frontline, search and destroy, etc.), scorestreaks, familiar maps (Nuketown, Crash, Hijacked, etc.), weapons, and operator characters from series favorites Blacks Ops and Modern Warfare.

The game will be free to play, a common feature of the mobile gaming landscape, so expect micro-transactions to seep their way into the mix in some form or another. Source: Call of Duty: Mobile/ActivisionCall of Duty: Mobile Battle Royale Mode

Activision confirmed Call of Duty: Mobile features a 100 player battle royale mode (unlike the next mainline entry) on a unique map amalgamating parts of familiar locations into one sprawling battlefield.

The mode includes vehicles in true Call of Duty style and is purported to offer solo, duo, and squad play alongside the ability to switch between a first and third-person perspective much like PUBG.

Oct. 1"s Call of Duty: Mobile launch will cover the majority of territories that support the App Store and Google Play except for Vietnam, Belgium, and, interestingly, mainland China.
